6.1. History

This section provides Cosmos Square historical and background information including a quick historic summary, an historical turning points highlights or milestones section and a "Previous Work" section.

Each of these three sections adds to the level of detail of the previous ones while possibly providing a somewhat less global or integrated view.

6.1.1. Summary
The Cosmos Square project was officially started in 1984, after a few decades of theoretical research and pedagogy for this theoretical research, as well as decade of IT and multimedia R&D, understanding, modeling, managing, and presenting knowledge and concepts, and especially trying to figure out better ways to communicate and share knowledge of often abstract nature.

It soon became clear that network virtual reality environments provided an optimal solution which, although not readily available in 1984, would soon be. Soon turned out to be about 3 decades. That did not stop our workers and thinkers and already in 1984, the Cosmos Square metaphor was born as it is still today.

What really evolved since 1984, apart from the available technology, is the depth of the metaphor and of our understanding and management of knowledge architecture. In consequence to that also, the DNAOS and REMMS technologies where developed, along with many related tools and interfaces.

Also, especially since 2004, we have been actively proposing and promoting international standards for knowledge architecture, entitlement, modeling, management and sharing, including our work with REMMS and AESIG at OMG (Object Management Group).
