6.1.3.1.1. Knowledge Architecture and Management

Since its inception at the end of the 60's and its operational beginnings in the early 70.s, knowledge management, modeling, sharing, and entitlement as been a driving force in 01's work and development. Securely, easily, and effectively sharing vast amounts of sophisticated content and knowledge on common public networks was a major objective, from the start.

More so, 01 elaborated the Cosmos Square metaphor for network-based knowledge sharing applications, even before computer networks officially existed. As well, already in the 70s, 01 COMMUNICATIONS had even developed their own computer networks (for data, video, and sound) and applications to enable its solutions.

While, at the time 01 COMMUNICATIONS' designs and solutions may have been ahead of their time, today they are becoming reality as the required infrastructure and networking is becoming common world wide.

While rich media 3D animated social networking platforms like SecondLife are readily available today already, finally, the main missing links are still related to knowledge architecture, management, modeling, and sharing.

That is why, especially in the last decade, 01 COMMUNICATIONS invested substantial energy and resources in better understanding the related issues, designing, testing, and implementing effective solutions, as well as promoting required standards and specifications.

This work and actions are manifested at different levels, including, first and foremost, through 01 COMMUNICATIONS' DNAOS REMMS technologies and solutions further described and referenced in this document. (see Links).

Second, through actively promoting effective IT standards that reflect knowledge's natural architecture, setting principles and specifications for its effective management and modeling through integrated platforms, tools, and ecosystem, as well as integrating effective knowledge entitlement to enable open, flexible, and secure, knowledge sharing.

Consequently, 01 has been and still is an active OMG (Object Management Group) member and contributor, especially through the AESIG work and REMMS standards proposals. 01 also developed technical information reference Web sites dedicated to knowledge sharing standards (e.g. EntitlementStandards.org), and to Knowledge Architecture (e.g. Knowledge Architect.org).

01 also contributed to W3C standards especially in XSLT and XPath functional programming for XML specifications.

Even more specifically active in the field the last decade, 01's work in knowledge management, modeling, and sharing is spread over our four decades of operation and include many tools developed through the years, typically to manage its own productions, as well as AI and knowledge processing language work and research that includes collaborations with LCSI (Logo Computer Systems Inc), the MIT, Futjitsu (Japan), Bell Labs/Bell Core, and the Canadian National Research Center.
